No one is Immune to Cyber attacks !

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

Cyber attacks are more common than anyone thinks, and it's not just the big brands that are vulnerable. In fact, small and mid-size hospitals / organisations are just as susceptible to these attacks as their larger counterparts.

According to recent studies, the USA is the country that faced the highest number of cyber attacks in 2022, accounting for 28% of global attacks. India came in second place with 7.7% of global attacks.

Location Does not Matter:

Location and Geography does not matter when it comes to cyber attacks. All organisations be it from the biggest of cities or small towns all are equally vulnerable to a cyber/ransomware attack irrespective of their size. For instance, the Indian healthcare industry alone faced 1.9 million cyber attacks till November 28, 2022, and hospitals in cities like Delhi, Tiruppur, Ladakh, Goa, and Mumbai experienced cyber attacks in 2022. This means that cyber attacks are happening closer to you than you might think.

Size and Brand Name Does not Matter:

Ransomware attackers do not discriminate based on the size or brand name of their targets. Even popular brands like AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Indian Council of Medical Research, Sree Saran Medical Centre, Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), Oil India, SpiceJet, Tata Power, IPCA Laboratories, and Aarti Drugs Ltd were attacked in 2022. This shows that it is not just the big names that need to be concerned about cyber attacks, but everyone including SMEs must take measures to protect themselves against such threats.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, cyber attacks are a significant threat to organisations worldwide, and they are more common than anyone thinks.

Organisations, irrespective of their size, location, or brand name, must take steps to safeguard their systems and data against such attacks. This includes measures like regular software updates, employee training, and having a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plan in place. By being proactive and vigilant, hospitals can reduce their vulnerability to cyber attacks and protect the safety and well-being of their patients.

No one can completely prevent a cyber attack but we can make it difficult for the attackers to find a way in.
